The Students' Activity Centre at the University of Technology, Hope Road, was the setting for unremitting vibes and an elevated energy level last Friday as 'Outta Sea, Freshers Fete' got under way.

The event, organised by the school's Students' Union Body with title sponsors Digicel and Smirnoff Ice, had all a party fanatic could asked for and more. The beach theme was exquisitely put together inside of the VIP Lounge where a beach setting was being mimicked.

There was sand, 'sea' and sexy girls, and according to one patron the only thing missing was the sun, but that was not a problem.

The oasis feeling inside of the VIP area was not reflected inside the regular party area, which was spacious up until midnight. Just after midnight lots of patrons began cramming into the venue as a barrage of hits from Sizzla including Praise Ye Jah, Solid as a Rock, Just One of Those Days, and Rise to the Occasion rocketed from the speakers.

When Renaissance took over selecting duties at minutes after midnight the party took on another musical dimension. The Renaissance selectors dropped some mix that had the patrons constantly responding to the music. Not only were the females reacting, their gyrating had become more sensual and the male patrons were now rising to the occasion.

If one thought that Renaissance was awesome then they would have to think again. When the Coppershot selectors took over there was pandemonium inside of the venue. They played several 'dub plates' distinctively produced for the party that had the patrons' full attention and reaction. They then eased into several Vybz Kartel songs before mixing in some hip- hop, including Busta Rhymes' Touch It and Chamillionaire's Riding Dirty. Coppershot then finished off the way they started, on a high, with several dub plates including a Tony Matterhorn titled Bad Man Fi Dem, an emulation of Goodas Fi Dem.

One then get the impression that Richie Feeling was going to have a bad night after a long introduction that did not seem to shake the crowd, but the intro was misleading. Richie Feelings actually managed to garner lots of energy out of the crowd with some tantalising hip-hop mix from the late '90s and early 2000s. This segment of their stint included songs like R Kelly and Jay Z's Fiesta Remix and Nas' Ouchie Wally. The patrons were dancing up a storm and constantly reacting in the form of screams, shouts, roars and several other ingenious methods.

ZJ Liquid, Stone Love selectors and several others also did well behind the turntables. The Stone Love selectors were merciless, while ZJ Liquid dropped some hot mix and remixes.

However, the party really got the hype from the energetic patrons who really turned out in their numbers to party the night away. The ladies were sexily attired and the men came ready to wine and keep up with the many hips that like Shakira's was not lying.
