- RECORD PRODUCER WINSTON RILEY DEAD
- Songwriter and record producer Winston Riley has died.
Winston, who is the father of radio DJ Kurt Riley, was in a coma after he was shot in the head and arm in November last year (01.11.11). Winston Riley died at hospital yesterday (19/01/12).
Winston was plagued with a series of violent attacks. In August last year he was shot and later stabbed 5 times in September.
Winston Riley produced General Echo's hugely influentialThe Slackest album in 1979, and he went on to launch the careers of Sister Nancy, Buju Banton, Cutty Ranks, Lone Ranger and Frankie Paul.

- CAPLETON IN TIP TOP SHAPE DESPITE DOCTORS VISIT
- "I’m healthy and fit" says Capleton.
The ‘Fireman’ was rushed to an emergency doctor’s visit on Tuesday (20/12/11) afternoon following abdominal pains. The veteran entertainer was preparing to visit the St. Mary Infirmary to hand over proceeds from his annual St. Mary Mi Come From when the pains developed.
Capleton who is currently in Barbados tells Music News that an x-ray had shown that his health is in tiptop shape.
Capleton’s management yesterday handed over $100,000JA from the proceeds of the annual 'St Mary Mi Come From'. The money will be going towards setting up a solar-powered energy system for the infirmary.
- Ne-Yo and Lauryn Hill Set to Headline Shaggy and Friends 2011 HEA
- Shaggy will continue with his commitment to give to the Bustamante Hospital for Children with his third staging of the Shaggy and Friends concert on December 30, 2011 on the lawns of Jamaica house.
Ne-yo and Lauryn Hill will be among the stella line-up performing at the concert. Other confirmed artistes giving of their time and talent are Stephen Marley, Deniece Williams, Chino, Romain Virgo, Assasin aka Agent Sasco, HALF PINT, Wayne Marshall, Tami Chynn, Cocoa Tea and Trinidadian soca artistes bunji garlin and fay-ann lyons.

This year, the proceeds from the concert will help to furnish the new ICU/cardiac ward working in partnership with chain Of Hope, a group of volunteer doctors and nurses who perform surgeries each year on our children with heart problems. Over 500 children are born each year with heart defects.
Shaggy reiterated his commitment to supporting the Bustamante Hospital for children “we must continue to save our children’s lives and urged the nation to give their support to this cause, no matter how great or small, so we can all keep making a difference.”
To Date the Shaggy and Friends make a difference foundation have raised a total of j$57,000,000 (US$650,000). The Foundation covered the costs for an overall audit to be done on all medical equipment (working or otherwise) at the Bustamante Hospital (June-July, 2011). In addition, they purchased 2 new fully equipped dental chairs for the dental unit at the hospital as their unit was forced closed due to non functional dental chairs. The chairs were delivered and installed earlier this year.
The hit making entertainer’s involvement with the Bustamante Hospital dates back to 2001, when on visiting a friend’s son who had been admitted there, he was sufficiently moved by the needs of the institution to make a resolve to support them in any possible way. He spent the next eight or so years fulfilling that resolve in a personal way with periodic donations, a process that eventually led, in 2009, to the inaugural Shaggy & Friends Make A Difference Foundation mega-event, the concert on the lawns of Jamaica House.

- GAZA SLIM REMANDED
- Portmore Empire member Gaza Slim was remanded in custody when she appeared in the Corporate Area R-M Court this morning.
Gaza Slim who is also known as Vanessa Bling was charged with conspiracy to pervert the course of justice.
The entertainer who is a member of the Vybz Kartel led Portmore Empire, was charged by the St Andrew North police last week, after surrendering to the lawmen days after being named a person of interest.
Gaza Slim had reported that Clive 'Lizard' Williams, the man Vybz Kartel is accused of killing on August 16, assaulted her during a robbery in Havendale, St Andrew.
Her report made to the St Andrew North police claimed that the incident occurred on October 29, five days after Kartel had been charged with Lizard's murder.
Gaza Slim is now being investigated for attempting to pervert the course of justice. She’s expected to return to court on December 19 where the matter is set for mention.
